Individual Virtual Therapy

Individual therapy, also called individual counselling or psychotherapy, offers one-on-one support for those dealing with personal challenges or emotional difficulties.

Sessions occur in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be openly explored.

Emerald Counselling Services provides guidance on a journey toward improved mental health and overall well-being through individual counselling.

Is Individual Counselling Right for Me?

Individual counselling at Emerald Counselling Services is a deeply personalized therapeutic process tailored to each person’s unique needs, experiences, and goals. Careful attention is given to understanding background, life history, and current circumstances to provide meaningful and effective support.

Counselling may be considered for a variety of reasons, including managing anxiety, stress, depression, grief and loss, caregiver burnout, body image concerns, or other challenges related to their own or a loved one’s diagnosis.

EMDR

At Emerald Counseling Services, the primary modality used is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapy that can support individuals affected by cancer—whether you are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or coping with the long-term emotional impact. EMDR helps heal overwhelming experiences related to a health diagnosis, including trauma from diagnosis, treatment side effects, and the ongoing challenges of survivorship or caregiving.

“Desensitization” means reducing the fear, anxiety, and distress connected to these experiences. “Reprocessing” involves reevaluating and restructuring thoughts and beliefs, helping you transform how you relate to the emotional and physical impacts of cancer.

When faced with cancer or a chronic illness, the brain sometimes doesn’t fully process painful or frightening moments. Instead, these memories can become “stuck,” along with the emotions, body sensations, and beliefs tied to them. This can lead to anxiety, flashbacks, feeling disconnected, or intense reactions in relationships that may feel confusing or overwhelming.
